Alcoa
introduces a patented treatment process that sheds dirt and grime
— and protects the shine — with ordinary washing.
Research confirms what our own instincts tell us. People — like
you — want great looks but don't want to spend the time and effort
needed to maintain aluminum wheels. Many said they would jump at the
chance to save time and reduce cleaning costs. Alcoa decided to
invent what you wanted.
In 1994, Alcoa experimented with formulas on test samples and, after
eight years of extensive testing, Alcoa has introduced a
revolutionary, new wheel surface treatment for a brighter wheel —
without polishing.
As a producer of coated aluminum wheels for cars, light trucks and
SUVs, we know coatings. We also know commercial vehicles, transit
buses and motor homes operate in demanding highway and urban
environments. To withstand these conditions, we developed Alcoa Dura-Bright®
wheels.
On ordinary aluminum wheels, a coating is typically a layer of baked
powder that sits on top of the wheel surface. But, with Alcoa
Dura-Bright® wheels, our patented treatment actually penetrates the
aluminum, forming a protective barrier that becomes an integral part
of the wheel. It completely eliminates the cracking, peeling and
filiform corrosion common in coated wheels.

Alcoa Dura-Bright® wheels need no painting, no polishing, no
special chemicals. Yet, the good looks last for years. Wheels
treated with this new finish continue to deliver the familiar
advantages of Alcoa wheels, including heat dissipation and true ride
for longer tire and brake life.
